This page shows the campaigns I am engaged in around Calow, Sutton, Heath and Holmewood. If you would like to know more details about any of these campaigns please do not hesitate to email me on [email protected].
Junction 29
J29 is at capacity with residents experiencing continuous queues on the slip roads. In its current state the junction is a danger to road users. I am working with Highways England to secure improvements to the layout and flow of traffic to help improve road safety and reduce the current unacceptable levels of congestion.
Calow Road Safety
I have been contacted by a number of local residents regarding road safety in Calow. Poor driving and bad road safety are unacceptable and it’s important that we all play our part in keeping our roads safe for everyone to use.
That’s why I launched a petition alongside Cllr Jack Woolley, County Councillor for Sutton Division, to make our community safer.
Unfortunately, our request for traffic calming measures was denied, but the County Council have agreed to fix an existing Vehicle Activated Sign and the Police have also agreed to more regular enforcement.
Anti-Social Behaviour in Holmewood & Heath
It is completely unacceptable that residents feel unsafe in their own homes and walking around their own community. Thta's why I delivered my ‘Crime Survey’ to residents across the two villages.
Since the survey, I met with the then Minister for Safeguarding, Rachel Maclean MP, whose brief covers anti-social behaviour, to discuss the impact crime is having on our local communities. The Minister agreed that we need to look to strengthen the powers of local authorities and the police, so they have the tools to resolve incidents regarding nuisance residents within our villages. I also met with the Chief Constable for Derbyshire Police who confirmed tackling anti-social behaviour was one of her main priorities.
I will continue to work with partners to strengthen laws to tackle nuisance neighbours and get more police on our streets to reassure our communities and deter crime.
