At the end of 2019, the value of Derbyshire’s Tourism Industry saw a 7.4% increase from the previous year and reached over £2 billion. Bolsover’s array of fantastic locations, attractions , and award winning accommodation play huge a major role in contributing to Derbyshire attracting over 42 million visitors to the county a year.
Last year the Government announced their Tourism Sector Deal and I will be working hard to ensure that Bolsover is a leading voice in boosting productivity in this industry.
Bolsover Castle A medieval structure lavishly added to by the Cavendish family in the 17th century, Bolsover Castle is a real show piece of the constituency. English Heritage upkeep the castle and pack the calender with a broad range of events annually making Bolsover Castle a flagship of the constituency’s tourism sector.
Hardwick Hall An idyllic Elizabethan country house based near Doe Lea designed by Robert Smythson. This stately home, maintained by the National Trust, is a fantastic example of Renaissance architecture and even featured in the Harry Potter films!
Creswell Crags Museum and Prehistoric Gorge Creswell’s very own prehistoric gorge! Creswell Crags undertake multiple environmental projects to conserve and protect the magnesium limestone gorge’s unique ecosystem and landscape, to ensure that future generations can discover our Ice Age ancestors.
We are extremely lucky to have such wonderful heritage within our constituency - With Bolsover Castle, Creswell Crags, Sutton Scarsdale Hall, Stainsby Mill and Hardwick House being major attractions to local people and supporting the visitor economy.
