Over the last few years, I've had a number of constituents getting in touch with me with concerns about the quarry in Whitwell - I've always been impressed with the speed and detail of the responses I've received from Tarmac.
Yesterday, I finally got to have a tour and meet some of those responsible for managing and working the site safely and with as little disruption to local residents as possible. We talked about the mitigation they are putting in place to prevent flooding, how the site is being reinstated, wildlife and environment management, And of course, how they are excavating the limestone.
The site is vast, much larger than I'd realised from driving past and pictures. I was extremely impressed by the health and safety measures that they have in place to protect everyone while working on site and their efforts to engage and inform the local community.
Thank you to everyone involved for welcoming me and giving me a quite fascinating morning.
