Many people continue to suffer from mental health issues following the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing high cost of living. It is important that anyone suffering knows there are people to talk to, and it is always better to seek support from friends, family or support groups.
We have some fantastic local groups supporting those who are suffering including Bottled Up Blokes who are continuing the fight to end the stigma of men speaking up about their mental health.
There are countless support groups across Bolsover which provide a friendly and safe space to make friends and socialise. These are often the cornerstones of our communities and provide an invaluable service. I also want to thank the fantastic teachers who ensure children are supported at school. I know how difficult it can be for young people during these years, especially during exam periods, and the support offered is critical.
In the last year I have co-hosted an event with Young Minds, spoken to Roman Kemp during the filming of his new documentary on mental health and met with the Government’s Youth Mental Health Ambassador Dr Alex George to discuss how we can improve access to mental health services in the UK.
I also plan on hosting a second event with Young Minds later this year to give those who are suffering the chance to get their voice living in Derbyshire, both young people and adults.
Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service (Call 0800 028 0077) is a freephone service available to everyone living in Derbyshire, both young people and adults. The Samaritans (Call 116 123) provide non-judgemental emotional support for those experiencing feelings of distress, despair or suicidal thoughts.
