Since I was elected I’ve been campaigning to get Junction 28 improved. The misery it causes, particularly for residents in South Normanton and Pinxton, is ridiculous and delays at the junction cost £4.5m every year. Over the past year, I’ve brought together a coalition of stakeholders to make the case for improving Junction 28, including National Highways, Midlands Connect, local authorities, local businesses and – most importantly – local residents. We have made a lot of progress, with debates in Westminster, round-table events and many meetings with Ministers and officials.
National Highways are currently working on three separate designs, of varying scales and costs, for improving J28. All of their projections indicate this is a very good investment project for the Government to back.
Now we just need to get the upgrade included in the Road Improvement Scheme 3, the new five-year funding agreement between the Department for Transport and National Highways, who run our motorways and major A roads.
