My July newsletter was sent out at the end of last month. If you haven't received it do sign up here - Mark's Regular Newsletter | Mark Fletcher (mark-fletcher.org.uk) - where you can also find all my previous newsletters.
Dear Resident,
I know it has only been two weeks since my last update and I'm sure there is
a joke, similar to buses, to be made about waiting for a newsletter and two
coming along at once, but there has been a lot of positive news for UK and
the Bolsover Constituency which I wanted to share. Whether that's:
* Inflation falling
* Record funding for schools in the Bolsover Constituency
* A new investment zone for Sheffield - delivering 8000 jobs to our region
* Brexit benefits - signing a Free Trade Agreement with an Indo-Pacific trade
bloc now worth £12 trillion in GDP
* Brexit benefits II - Reforms and investment across our fishing industries to
mark a clear departure from the EU Common Fisheries Policy
* UK economic growth - Renault group and Geely Auto investing £6bn into the
UK to develop ultra-low emission petrol, diesel & hybrid engines, which will
support 19,000 jobs
* UK economic growth II - Tata Group, parent company to Jaguar Land Rover,
are investing £4 billion to build a new electric car battery giga-factory in the
UK
I will be out and about every day across the constituency all of August and
I'm really excited to speak to as many residents as possible, so if you do see
me please do come and say hello and bend my ear about any issues - either
local or national - that may be on your mind.
Hopefully the weather gets better or you will be seeing me in my raincoat in
August!
I hope you find this quick update interesting and I look forward to updating
you towards the end of August.
Best wishes,
Mark
Record school funding
Our schools will receive record funding in 24/25 with per pupil funding at
around £6,000. Schools will now get more money for pupils than ever
before. Every pupil in England is set to benefit:
* More staff
* Better classroom materials
* School running costs covered
"This money can be spent on staff salaries, school trips and classroom
equipment which will help raise school standards and education outcomes.
These increases form part of the additional £9.8 billion being invested in the
schools core budget by 2024-25, compared to 2021-22.
This follows news last week that teachers in England have been given the
highest pay award for 30 years of 6.5%, following government accepting in
full the recommendations set out by the independent pay review body. In
doing so, the Government will be delivering on its manifesto commitment to
raise the minimum starting salary for teachers to £30,000 from September.
This deal will allow teachers and school leaders to call off strike action.
This will support the Prime Minister’s plans to build a better future, where
children are given the highest standard of education no matter where they
grow up and have the skills they need for the future."

Darfoulds Bridge
Over the past few weeks I have met with Network Rail and Derbyshire County
Council regarding Darfoulds Bridge.
There are some design negotiations still to take place and maintenance
checks on the bridge’s structure before a finalised detailed design can be
confirmed.
I have asked for monthly updates and both DCC & Network Rail have agreed
to try and fast-track the project where possible.
I will continue to keep residents updated.
Levelling-Up Funding - Bolsover Town Centre Update
Over the past few weeks I have held various meetings to discuss
improvements to Bolsover Town centre. I was extremely disappointed earlier
this year when Bolsover District Council's Levelling-Up Fund (LUF) bid was
rejected, but I remain absolutely determined that we will deliver for local
residents.
I have been working hard to ensure it is understood just how important the
regeneration of our primary market town will be to our area, and will continue
to work with officials and partners to ensure Bolsover is well placed to
capitalise on any future funding announcements, including the next round of
LUF.
Public Sector Pay
The Government has announced they have accepted the independent pay
review bodies recommendation for public sector staff in full. This includes;
* 7% uplift for police and prison officers
* 6% for doctors (plus a £1,250 bonus)
* 6.5% for teachers (fully funded)
* 5% for our armed forces (plus a £1k bonus)
These increases will be funded without additional borrowing, through greater
efficiency and prioritisation, and an increase on the immigration health
surcharge. We don't want to add more pressure on inflation, which the
Government remain absolutely committed to reducing.
The Teaching Unions have already agreed to suspend all school strikes with
immediate effect and the Prime Minister has urged other union leaders to
accept the outcome of the independent pay process.
Investment Zone for Sheffield
The Government has launched the 1st of 12 new investment zones in
Sheffield! The Government is investing £80 million and working with local
councils, universities, and international businesses like Boeing to deliver 8000
jobs and £1.2 billion worth of investment in the local community.
Great news for residents in the Bolsover community who will have more
access to skilled and well-paid jobs. I look forward to working with partners to
improve transport links and access into key employment sites in our region.
Holding private parking companies to account
I raised the incredibly frustrating case of my constituent who is being pursued
relentlessly after receiving a private parking charge. The company involved,
District Enforcement Ltd, are nigh on impossible to get hold of and I have
been trying to get a response from them since last August. The issue received
a lot of cross party support including from the Leader of the House. Of course,
I look forward to hearing back from District Enforcement Ltd and getting my
constituents case resolved.

Great British Nuclear
The Government have announced a significant step forward in British nuclear power. This is great news for the country and for our region - we already have the world's first nuclear fusion power plant being built in North Nottinghamshire, advanced Small Modular Reactors (SMR) are being developed at Rolls Royce in Derby, and they are building the reactors for the new fleet of AUKUS nuclear submarines. Bringing even more skilled jobs and prospects into the East Midlands, increasing our energy security for the future and bringing down bills.
The recent announcement included;
- £157 million for nuclear technology development
- Provide up to a quarter of the UK’s electricity from homegrown nuclear by 2050
- Remain committed to mega nuclear projects like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, supporting high skilled energy jobs as we grow the economy
The aim is to have up to a quarter of all the UK’s electricity coming from nuclear energy – a clean, safe, reliable, and abundant supply of homegrown energy. That’s up to 24 gigawatts of electricity coming from nuclear, enough to power 24 million homes across the country and driving down our energy bills.
Welcome news for Pleasley Pit
Fantastic news that the Land Trust, who manage the Pleasley Pit site, have been successful in their application for funding from Biffa. The company gives grants to projects that benefit communities living near landfill sites. The £402k will be used to enable vital restoration and refurbishment works to be undertaken at the pit including work on the iconic chimney and the South Heapstead building.
