On Tuesday BUPA wrote to Mark to inform him that they plan to close the dentist practice in Bolsover, one of 75 closures they are planning across the country.
Mark has asked for an urgent meeting with their Chief Executive and with Dr Chris Clayton, head of the Derbyshire Integrated Care Board.
Mark has been concerned for some time about the availability of dentists locally, and has raised it in the House of Commons and with the previous Secretary of State for Health. Bupa’s decision is a real blow and one that he thinks has been handled incredibly badly on their part.
Until their letter on Tuesday they have not reached out to Mark and he discussed the issues with dentistry when he met with Dr Chris Clayton, who didn’t mention any planned closures. Mark is disappointed in this unilateral action on Bupa’s part, and will be exploring every option to keep the practice open.
