The Government will be providing an extra £2.2 billion in courts, prisons and probation services, including £500 million to clear court backlogs; funding programmes to tackle neighbourhood crime, reoffending, county lines, and violence against women and girls; and committing £3.8 billion over the next three years to the largest prison building programme in a generation.
A common theme raised by residents who took part in my crime surveys is the sense of unfairness in our criminal justice system and this funding will help to tackle the causes of crime and anti-social behaviour, whilst ensuring those who do not live by the rules are properly punished.
