Last Week Mark Fletcher visited the old Morton Colliery to discuss how the site could be made more accessible for residents.
Following Mark’s July visit to Pleasley Pit, the potential of Bolsover’s old collieries as potential beauty spots is clear to see. Mark visited the Morton Colliery Heritage Group to listen to their plans for developing the site and making it more accessible for the local community.
The site is full of interesting history and now features a play park and outdoor gym, as well as a number of walk routes for the public to enjoy. Mark and the Heritage Group discussed the potential for a mining memorial to commemorate all that lost their lives at colliery over the years.
Commenting on the visit, Mark said:
“I really enjoyed meeting Arthur and Derek last week and having the chance to see and discuss their plans to make the site more accessible for members of the public.
“I’ve been listening to their plans to have a mining memorial installed and really hope that it comes to fruition.
“I’d like to thank Arthur and Derek for all the work they’re doing to improve the Morton Colliery area with the Heritage Group and I wish them every success in the future and hope to be back soon.”
