Last week Mark Fletcher met with the Coal Mining Authority along with Bolsover District Council to discuss using mine water at Whitwell Colliery as a sustainable energy source.
Mark has met with Ashfield MP Lee Anderson and Kwasi Kwarteng, the Minister for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, on several occasions in Westminster to see how this project can move forward. Lee Anderson has long championed schemes to use mine water as a sustainable form of heat and energy in new housing developments and Mark is keen to work with Lee and other MPs to make progress on this.
Mark said
“There’s great potential to use former mines across the country as a source of sustainable energy that would be better for the environment, provide cheaper heating and act as a source of revenue for local authorities. I look forward to continuing these conversations and finding a way to help ensure we have a widespread roll out of these schemes.”
Since becoming an MP Mark has worked tirelessly on improving Bolsover’s Green credentials, campaigning for investment in renewable energy and green industries to bring skilled jobs to the Bolsover constituency and reduce both our carbon footprint and household bills.
