Mark Fletcher has today called for a debate on the East Midlands’ Freeport bid in a question in the House of Commons to Leader of the House Jacob Rees-Mogg.
A winning bid to have a freeport in the East Midlands would be a huge boost to the region, bringing much needed investment, skilled jobs and a shot in the arm for local businesses and supply chains. Mark has been working with colleagues from across the East Midlands in Parliament, the County Council, local Councils and local businesses on putting together the strongest possible proposal for this site to come to the East Midlands.

“Over the past few months I’ve been working colleagues from across the East Midlands to support our bid for a Freeport in the region. This morning, my colleague Ben Bradley raises the Freeport bid in the House of Commons during International Trade questions, and I raised it during business questions. Over the coming weeks we will keep campaigning for this really important project with all the colleagues involved. We have the perfect site for it, the biggest cargo-processing airport in the country, and chance to bring more jobs to our region.”
The Government has announced already that it wants to move towards a high-skilled low-carbon jobs market, investing in creating green jobs in sustainable industries and emerging technologies to give the UK a modern, dynamic economy. Mark has been campaigning since his election to Parliament last year for a Green Enterprise Zone to be built here in Bolsover that would attract the high skilled jobs and investment that our area needs to thrive in a new low carbon world.
