Yesterday Mark Fletcher organised a meeting with other MPs and the Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Labour Markets, Paul Scully about support for the hospitality industry and our hard-hit pubs.
Our pubs and restaurants have been greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty that case rates have caused. Most have had to remain closed for significant periods, affecting bookings and stock levels. Mark continues to support the Government’s efforts to provide support for these businesses affected and will continue to work with Ministers on the best way to do that.
Mark said
“I know that a lot of constituents have been in touch with me regarding support for pubs throughout the pandemic. Other MPs and I had the opportunity to feedback some of our concerns and thoughts about the current problems faced by the hospitality sector. The Minister has promised to go and look at some of the issues raised and see how this might be used to improve support for those struggling in the sector. I’m grateful to the Minister for taking the time to speak to MPs about the issues faced by the hospitality industry.”
As our world-leading vaccine rollout continues, the Government will continue to look at ways to reopen the pub and restaurant industry as soon as it is safe to do so. Through the Eat Out to Help Out scheme last summer and the continued financial support schemes that have been on offer throughout the pandemic, the Government have shown they are serious about supporting our pubs.
