Mark and Lee met with Royal Chief Exec to see how hospital has been getting back to normal following fall in local Covid-19 cases.
As part of regular meetings with Mark Fletcher and Lee Rowley to discuss the status of Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Angie Smithson confirmed that the hospital is coping well with Covid-19. Mark and Lee were told that the hospital has 12 patients who have tested positive and 5 patients in ICU suffering with the effects of the virus.
With the winter peak of Covid-19 in the UK now behind us it was another chance for Mark Fletcher and Lee Rowley to talk to the Angie Smithson directly about how the hospital was currently coping with the global pandemic. Hospital admissions with Covid-19 are falling at Chesterfield Royal as they are across the country, with the effect of the UK’s world leading vaccine rollout becoming clear. Staff at the hospital are continuing to receive their vaccines, with Mark and Lee told that in approximately 4 weeks all staff will have had their second doses. As the effects of the virus continue to reduce, Chesterfield Royal Hospital also expects to return to normality soon.
Mark said:
“It was great to hear from the brilliant Angie yesterday.
It’s really positive to see that the number of cases is really coming down now, although naturally we wish those currently in hospital with Covid-19 a speedy and full recovery.
I am really pleased to hear reports of the progress they are making on vaccination and I look forward to sharing an update on plans for the hospital to return to normality soon.
As always, thank you to those at the Royal Hospital who continue to look after us and keep us going throughout this pandemic.”
Mark has had regular calls with local healthcare leaders and hospital executives throughout the pandemic to ensure they are getting the support they need to cope throughout the pandemic and convey our gratitude to them for their work. As the hospital data shows that we are defeating the pandemic, Mark will continue to hold these meetings to make sure our health services and key workers are ready to return to normal and provide any assistance they need. Mark is keen to support the NHS and healthcare providers and has long campaigned to improve access to healthcare facilities across the Bolsover constituency.
