From today - those over the age of 45 will be able to book a slot to receive their 1st dose of the vaccine.
This follows the massive success the Government had made in getting the first 9 vaccine cohorts their first dose ahead of schedule. This has been an incredibly important milestone to hit as 99% of COVID related deaths have come from the first 9 cohort groups. Ensuring that they were the first to receive their dose of the vaccine has been the top priority.
This means that the Government can move onto the next phase of the vaccine roll out - starting by offering the over 45s their first dose of the jab. Protecting people based on clinical risk has been the Government's approach throughout the course of the vaccination programme.
Bolsover has been leading the way with vaccinations with the Health Secretary Matt Hancock praising local public health officials and local NHS staff for doing an outstanding job.
Commenting, Mark Fletcher said:
"I would urge as many people as possible to book in for their 1st jab. It's so important that we all get vaccinated where we can so that we can keep pushing this virus back and get back to life as normal.
As we saw yesterday with the return of pubs, restaurants and gyms, there is a sense of positivity in the air as we start to regain some sense of normality. This is thanks to the brilliant work of our NHS and volunteers rolling out the vaccination programme.
This is an amazing milestone and I'd like to pay tribute to all those that are working to hard to make these achievements a reality."
