Great news for residents of Clowne and Stanfree. After writing to Derbyshire County Council asking them to reduce the speed limit on Low Road, I have received the following response from Cllr Athwal, Cabinet Member for Highways:
“I agree that a lowering of the National speed limit to 40mph on Low Road from around the nursery access to the existing 30mph speed limit terminal position on Cliff Hill would be appropriate. I have therefore written to the Derbyshire Constabulary who are the agency responsible for enforcement speed limits in Derbyshire and they have written back agreeing with the reduction in the speed limit. The reduction in the speed limit involves an amendment to the speed limit Traffic Regulation Order which will be carried out in-line with our other commitments, therefore I am unable to provide a timescale for this process.”
I know this has been an issue for road users in Clowne for a number of years and I look forward to working with local councillors Will Fletcher and Natalie Hoy to deliver this important road safety campaign.
