Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced hundreds of new licences for oil and gas in the North Sea.
This helps grow the economy, secure hundreds of thousands of jobs, and strengthens our own energy security.
This does not mean we are abandoning net-zero. We’re decarbonising faster than any other G7 country. We’re investing billions of pounds in new nuclear, offshore wind, solar, and carbon capture technologies.
But even by having one of the most ambitious climate targets in the world, 25% of our energy demand in 2050 will still be met by oil & gas.
It’s absolutely essential that Britain should provide its own energy – whether that be nuclear, oil & gas, or renewables.
This is a pragmatic approach to strengthening our energy security and delivering net-zero, whilst not punishing hard working families with increased energy costs.
