These winter months have not been easy for anybody and I recognise the real hardship that many are facing with the cost of living and high energy prices. The Government has introduced several schemes that will provide support to individuals and families this winter. This includes:
- Energy bills capped at £2,500 for the average household
- An additional £400 off energy bills for all homes
- £650 targeted cost of living support for the most vulnerable households
- £300 to support pensioners this winter
- A £150 Council Tax rebate to keep more cash in families' pockets
- Business energy bills capped at equivalent rates as households
- £200 for those who use alternative fuel to heat their homes
- Increasing the Household Support Fund, allowing Derbyshire County Council to support vulnerable households with bills
In the Autumn Statement 2022, the Chancellor set out further measures to support individuals on low income and those on benefits. The Chancellor announced:
- The largest-ever increase to the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage
- Pensions and benefits rising in line with benefits
- Additional funding for Local Authorities to protect services and support vulnerable individuals
As the Chancellor stated during his Autumn Statement, “we also protect the vulnerable, because to be British is to be compassionate and this is a compassionate Conservative Government.” I will continue to make representations to the Prime Minister to ensure that the most vulnerable in society receive the support that they deserve.
