Mark Fletcher has paid tribute to the brilliant work done by food charity Fareshare in helping ensure food waste is minimised.
This week Mark paid a visit to East Midlands Food Charity Fareshare on Heath industrial estate. Fareshare work closely with supermarkets and food producers to reduce food waste and provide food parcels and pallets of food to other charities in the area.
Fareshare showed Mark the brilliant work they had been doing throughout the course of the pandemic. Over the course of the past year, Fareshare have distributed over 21 tonnes of food which is the equivalent to 50,000 meals.
Mark commented:
"Fareshare are a fantastic environmental charity and have been doing some brilliant work over the course of the past year, especially supporting our communities throughout the pandemic.
I'd like to pay tribute to the amazing staff there and say thank you for the important work that they're doing to support those in the community who may have struggled over the course of the past few months.
I was shocked to learn of the huge amounts of food waste that supermarkets dispose of each year. Quite often good quality food is thrown out which could be put to good use by some of the many fantastic charities we have throughout our area."
