Last week, I made a guest appearance on BBC Politics East Midlands to discuss post-16 education, levelling-up, and HS2. As you may be aware, the Bolsover constituency currently has no mainstream post-16 provision - meaning students have to leave our area to receive further education. That's why I am working with Derbyshire County Council, the Department for Education, and the Regional Schools Commissioner to provide a sixth form at The Bolsover School and with Bolsover District Council to create a technical college, so we can deliver a high-skilled, high-paid, local economy.
On HS2, I outlined my opposition to this project as it has no benefits for the constituency of Bolsover, I would much prefer the money to be spent on local transport and infrastructure projects, such as better bus services, a Shirebrook/M1 Link Road, improvements to Treble Bob Roundabout and Junctions 28 & 29, as well as expanding the Robin Hood Line and reopening the Maid Marian Line with the creation of a station to serve the community of Pinxton.
