On Monday 20th of March, Mark Fletcher the Member of Parliament for Bolsover hosted the charity Young Minds in Parliament to support their campaign to improve the provision of youth mental health services for young people.
The event was very successful with dozens of Members of all parties attending. The Minister responsible for mental health policy Maria Caulfield MP attended and thanked Young Minds for the work they are doing.
The event saw young people from across the UK empowered to come to London to speak to MPs to impart their lived experience of the difficulty navigating the CAHMS system.
Mark Fletcher has been a long-time advocate of tackling youth mental health issues and believes it is a crucial part of his wider vision to provide opportunity for young people in the Bolsover constituency.
Following the event Mark said:
“I am so proud to bring Young Minds to Parliament today. The stories of the young people making their case to MPs is inspirational and I will continue to do what is in my power to end the wait on CAHMS waitlists.
“I think most families, including my own, has been affected by mental health problems. As a society we have come a long way being able to talk about mental health; now it is time to take that talk and turn it into action.
“I am incredibly grateful for the Minister for joining us. As a former nurse she understands the unique pressures the NHS faces and I hope this event helps build towards a brighter future for our next generation.”
