Mark has welcomed a comprehensive trade agreement between the UK and Australia that will benefit millions of individuals and businesses throughout the UK and Australia.
The ambitious trade agreement agreed between the UK and Australian Government will benefit industries throughout the UK, such making UK cars and Scottish whisky cheaper to sell to Australia by removing trade barriers and benefitting millions currently working within the UK. The new deal will be a boost to industries supporting 3.5 million people throughout the UK, including some in the Bolsover constituency.
The new deal will also mean that young people can more easily travel to Australia to work and live in the country, removing barriers for people and businesses. Qualifications will also be recognised in both countries, meaning those qualified in one country can move and work in another. The deal is the first of its kind, being the first trade deal negotiated entirely from scratch since the UK left the EU last year.
The deal also includes commitments to work closely together on things such as defence, intelligence, tech and fighting climate change – including a future Clean Tech Partnership.
Current trade between the UK and Australia represents £13.9 billion for the UK economy and is now set to grow under this new trade deal.
Mark welcomed the agreement, commenting:
“I’m so pleased that we’ve managed to agree a trade deal entirely from scratch with Australia. The deal is testament to the hard work the Government have been putting in to secure a comprehensive new trade agreement.
This is exactly the kind of ambition we should have when looking to negotiate new and exciting trade agreements with the rest of the world. It shows that Britain is ready to do business with the rest of the world and look beyond Europe and move to being a truly global Britain.
The benefits of this trade deal are a massive boost for individuals and businesses throughout the UK.”
