Mark Fletcher reacted positively to yesterday’s announcement that the Government is going to reform the Mental Health Act to support those with serious mental health issues and end the stigma once and for all.
The reforms will be the biggest shake up of mental health laws in the UK for 40 years, and will look to give patients more control and choice over the treatment that they receive, ensuring that they get the treatment that works for them. Mark is fully in support of these long overdue measures to ensure mental health and physical health treatment and services achieve parity.
Mark said
“This is a huge milestone in the treatment of mental health issues and I’m incredibly pleased that the Government have agreed to carry out this long overdue work. Reforming the Mental Health Act will make a huge difference to the lives of those struggling with mental health illnesses and I am glad to see these changes that have been announced today.”
Mark has repeatedly highlighted the need to provide greater funding for and increased awareness around mental health issues in the House of Commons. This has been an issue he has been passionate about throughout his life and has become even more relevant due to the effects of Covid-19. Mark fully supports these reforms and will continue to campaign for greater mental health support.
