Mark Fletcher has welcomed a new Nissan and Envision AESC gigafactory and electric car model in Sunderland in a huge win for manufacturing and industry in the UK.
Today Nissan announced plans to build a new gigafactory in the Sunderland as well as a new model of electric vehicle which will be built at the site. The news represents a huge boost for manufacturing in the UK, as well as the UK’s plans to hit net zero by 2050 and banning the sale of gasoline based vehicles.
Nissan announced their new fleet of all electric cars would be manufactured at its Sunderland plant, with the new gigafactory from Envision AESC sitting along side it manufacturing the all-important electric batteries.
The announcement provides a huge boost for UK manufacturing and will bring more jobs to the North East of England. The plans also mark a big step forward in making sure the UK is a world leader in the global electric vehicles market, with £ 1billion of investment going towards creating 6,000 jobs.
Commenting on the announcement Mark said:
“This news shows that the UK continues to be one of the best places in the world to come and do business and is a huge vote of confidence in global Britain. We have a thriving automotive industry here in the UK and this new announcement from Nissan shows that.
“Building back greener from the pandemic requires these kind of projects and commitment from business and industry and I couldn’t be happier with the new announcement from Nissan.
“This announcement shows the great potential we have in the UK for manufacturing and doing business. As we look to do business with the wider world and look beyond the EU I’m confident that the UK remains the main destination for green manufacturing.”
