Mark Fletcher has welcomed plans to give those who are most vulnerable COVID booster jabs in September.
As a precaution ahead of the winter period, those who are most vulnerable from COVID-19 will be eligible to receive a booster jab from the NHS throughout the month of September. Progress on the vaccine programme has been rapid and the decision to provide booster jabs against new variants will help future proof progress that has already been made.
Booster jabs will be given to all those over the age of 50 as well as those who are most vulnerable subject to approval from the Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisation. This will extend the effectiveness of the jab and protect them throughout the busy winter period.
Commenting on the proposals, Mark said:
“We’ve made some amazing progress on the vaccination programme and I’m really pleased that we’ve made it to this stage. Giving those who are most vulnerable a booster jab should keep people from falling ill from new variants over the winter period when our NHS will be at its busiest.
“We’ve come really far in our fight against the pandemic, to think this time a year ago we weren’t sure whether a vaccine was even possible. The programme has meant we have been able to start getting back to normal after a year of uncertainty.
“The booster jab programme means that we can future proof all the progress we have made so far and can learn to live with the virus in a way that keeps people healthy and protects jobs and livelihoods”
