Mark has backed the Government’s plans to invest in clean hydrogen technology to create more than 9,000 new jobs by 2030.
Hydrogen fuel offers a UK based, low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels which could provide up to a third of the UK’s energy in the future. Hydrogen generated energy will be vital to the UK’s plans to become carbon neutral by 2050.
Earlier this week the Government set out its strategy to invest in hydrogen power, with plans to invest more than £340 million into the industry. This will help slash transport emissions, as well as those related to construction, allowing the UK to build back better from the pandemic.
The investment could unlock billions for the economy and create business opportunities right throughout the UK, including here in the Bolsover constituency.
Commenting on the plans Mark said:
“I welcome this positive step by the Government outlining their plans for the future of hydrogen fuel in the UK. It’s so important that we look for alternative fuel sources to ensure we have a strong dependable fuel mix as we look to reach net-zero by 2050.
“The investment could unlock so many new business opportunities and bring new high skilled jobs to areas such as Bolsover. As we transition to a green economy and new never before seen jobs are created, we need to make sure that people in the Bolsover constituency are able to benefit from these industries.
“It’s so important that we work in getting the right infrastructure and conditions in place now so that we can benefit from this kind of investment and continue to bring those high skilled jobs to our region.
“I think that this is a very positive step in our journey to a zero-carbon economy.”
