Last night I attended local residents meeting at Pleasley Miners Welfare hosted by the Pleasley Community Action Group (PCAG) to discuss concerns for the impact of new housing developments on the village.
I was joined at the Q&A by Ben Bradley MP for Mansfield and Leader of Notts County Council, as the proposed Pleasley Hill Farm development ( https://www.pleasleyhillfarm.com ) is in the Mansfield constituency, but affects the entire village (including the Derbyshire/Bolsover side).
As we discussed, planning is primarily the responsibility of the District Council, but it was important to hear everyone’s thoughts on how we can move forward.
I outlined my support for planning reform to simplify the current system, especially the relationships between the two tiers of local government, and to ensure developers do not cut corners when it comes to Section 106 Monies e.g doctors, roads, and schools.
Both me and Ben agreed that the creation of an East Midlands Mayor in 2024 will help provide a strategic and more long-term approach to development, but in the meantime we will work together to help hold the District Council to account and mitigate the impact of the Local Plan.
