Residents of Whitwell have suffered for decades due to traffic cutting through their village due to the height restriction on the A619 due to Darfoulds Bridge. I am working with Derbyshire County Council and Network Rail to lower the road under the bridge and allow HGV access to Worksop. I know residents are concerned this will lead to additional flooding, but flood mitigation measures would be included as part of the project.
This scheme has the potential to provide much needed relieve to the road network in Whitwell, which is not suitable to HGVs, and make a real difference to the everyday lives of local residents, who are currently suffering from both noise and air pollution from traffic using the village as a bypass from the A619 to Worksop via the A6O.
Councillor Carolyn Renwick, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure at Derbyshire County Council, has confirmed than an improvement scheme is nearly agreed with Network Rail, but unfortunately due to high capital costs it likely requires funding from the Government. That's why I'm asking you to sign my petition and back the campaign to secure funding for Darfoulds Bridge.
The more signatures the petition receives the greater chance our requests will be accepted, so please share this as widely as possible.
